Upgraded from bulk register import to assessed against Cadw's full scheduled-monument report (sig-20260722-report-pe005). fortified_residence assessed yes from overwhelming active defensive fabric plus the Marshal's hall and private apartments. popular_castle assessed yes on the report's own evidence of exceptional public standing (Henry VII's birthplace, Cromwell's siege, a presented restored monument). state_fortification left unassessed: it was garrisoned in the Civil War but the original purpose — a lordly castle — governs.
